ALKYLPHENOLS ET MUSCS SYNTHETIQUES DANS L’AIR INTERIEUR : CARACTERISATION DE L’EXPOSITION HUMAINE

Abstract : Two SVOC families, alkylphenols (APs) and polycyclic musks (PcMs), were investigated in indoor air from four locations: a nursery, an office, a house and a flat and in household and personal care products. We focused on 4-tert-octylphenol (OP), 4-nonylphenol (NP) and their mono- and di-ethoxylates (OPEO1, OPEO2, NOEO1 and NPEO2) as well as galaxolide (HHCB) and tonalide (AHTN). HHCB (28.1−60.4 ng m-3), AHTN (12−28.9 ng m-3) and NP (15.9−26.1 ng m-3), were the predominant indoor compounds. The contamination level sequences for NP and OP were similar: house>nursery>office>flat. The sequences differed between HHCB (house 2 times>>nursery>office>flat) and AHTN (nursery 5times>>flat>house>office). Important discrepancies of AP and PcM concentrations in household and personal care products were observed, from a few ng g-1 to 4×105 ng g-1. Indoor air contamination was related to product use and room aeration. For an adult, estimation of NP exposure via two pathways – inhalation (3.2 ng kg-1 d-1), from air contact (10 ng kg-1 d-1) and from personal care products (0.092 ng kg-1 d-1) showed a preponderance of dermal/air contact. The same trend was observed for a child, with a fivefold higher level of total exposure (28.6 ng kg-1 d-1) than for an adult (13.3 ng kg-1 d-1).
